On June 18, the Cheech Marin Centre for Chicano Art and Tradition celebrated its grand opening around the historic Mission Inn, in Riverside.
Comedian and actor Cheech Marin, 50 % of the renowned comedy team that is Cheech and Chong, has amassed a selection of about 700 parts of art created by Mexican-American artists.
The museum, dubbed “The Cheech,” will be property to one of the greatest collections of Chicano artwork in the country.
Painting, sculptures, drawings, blended media pieces and tethered artwork from the ceiling have discovered their house in the 60,000-sq.-foot building.
Some of the art depicts the struggles of Mexicans and Mexican-People in terms of civil liberties, spiritual expression and the rights of farm employees, even though other people display cultural pride, dedication and resilience.

“Other patrons have told me that some of the artwork reminds them of their grandmother’s household.
“Sometimes when I wander as a result of the galleries, I see men and women with tears in their eyes when they are looking at the artwork. There seems to be an emotional tale getting spot suitable then.”
“Being a docent, I have attained a lot more insight of the Chicano lifestyle, as I have had the privilege to chat with families that have frequented the museum.”
