Boren Art Gallery | Taylor University

Situated in historic Helena Corridor, the Taylor Artwork Gallery is household to the Boren Collection of Western Art. This assortment is the bequest of Leland and LaRita Boren, longtime inhabitants of Upland and devoted supporters of Taylor University. This art legacy is the product or service of a a long time-extensive labor of enjoy: gathering Western and Native American artwork topics. The Boren Selection formerly decorated the Boren’s company headquarters, AVIS Company, in Upland.

Gallery Hrs

Through the summertime months, we are getting ready for our complete opening in the tumble. You should look at back in early August for the opening date. In the course of the academic year, the Gallery will be open up from 11 am to 5 pm, Tuesday through Friday.

Area and Parking

You are welcome to park on both the north or south sides of Helena Corridor. Enter the Gallery as a result of the east doorways (at the top of the stairs).

Admittance is absolutely free. The Gallery is housed on three amounts of the building.

Amount 1

The downstairs/basement display area at the moment functions the drinking water media paintings of James E. Boren (1921-1990). Though this master painter was not a relative of the Boren spouse and children, he was clearly a favourite. The Selection has a lot more paintings by this artist than any other individual, which include a quantity of oils. Notably, the visuals on Degree 1 are principally executed in gouache. This opaque (non-clear) watercolor is unique for its pastel-like features.

Amount 2

In the rooms and alcoves of the entrance degree, you will experience modern functioning cowboys, paintings and sculptures by Indigenous American artists, and paintings depicting scenes from 1870-1910, the “golden era” of the American West.

Level 3

With the largest volume of house, the top floor of Helena Corridor demonstrates the broader scope of the Borens’ art tastes. In these galleries, you will see a lot more operating cowboy and Indigenous American topics, as perfectly as Western landscapes, scenes from the Previous Southwest, portraiture, and paintings of the 4-legged friends—Texas longhorns and American buffalo—that lived on the Boren ranch south of Upland. This flooring also has a functioning classroom with paintings picked to interact a total range of website visitors: university students, university-age youngsters, and group people.
