The Art of Maurice Sendak”

In preparation for our upcoming exhibition, Wild Things Are Happening: The Art of Maurice Sendak, we asked Columbus Museum of Art staff members to share what they are most excited about.

“I’m most excited to see visitors reconnect with beloved childhood art and characters.”
— Olivia T., Visitor Experience Supervisor

“I distinctly remember picking out ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ one day at my school library in the 3rd grade and curling up to read it. It’s exciting to have an exhibition that so many people can relate to.”
— Kacey Murphy, Visitor Experience Lead Associate

“My favorite book growing up was ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’ My Mom would read it to me every night. I haven’t seen much of Maurice Sendak’s work besides ‘Where the Wild Things Are,’ so I’m excited to discover more of his work.”
— Kai Bell, Server/Barista

“I recently found my original copy of ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’ It definitely brought back the excitement. I’m excited for visitors to see the custom products we’ve created at the Museum Store for the exhibition.”
— Emma Hagler, Assistant Manager of Museum Store

“I’m mostly excited to see kids brighten up in the Museum seeing his work. It’s going to be a unique show as it will excite little brains and adults as well.”
— Rachael Farber, Membership and Office Coordinator

“I’m looking forward to seeing the range of Maurice Sendak’s work bring back childhood wonder and nostalgia. I feel like I’ll remember some of the books and stories I’ve forgotten.”
— Amber Wacker, Design and Digital Communications Manager
