Deconstruct. Decontextualize. Text that artists like to use when describing the approaches and intellectual positioning of their performs.

In this article we find SpY executing a large amount of both.

First, he pulls the humble barrier tape away from its primary context – which is to offer a visible warning to continue to be absent from a possibly risky area. Then he deconstructs the actual roll of tape, turning it from extensive ongoing spans of pink and white into a type of fringe discipline hanging from cables just higher than your head.

With the addition of waterfront breezes and your mild dances beneath, this set up of “Barrier Tape” in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is a fully interactive kinetic and sound sculpture. The 1,600-meter set up is drawing a lot of attention to this locale simply because it is vivid and tends to make a rustling sound reminding you probably of leaves. It also brandishes a perception of emergency or risk, but you’re not guaranteed why.

“Inside the piece, the repeated ingredient normally takes the viewer into a transitory point out of disorientation,” suggests the artist Spy.

“The parts of tape swing in unison with the wind, producing a wave-like movement through the composition and building an intense, random soundscape.”
