Maria Marino delivers the vivid colours of her working day-time landscapes into the night with her pastel nocturnes. See a lot more of her function (equally day and night) in our Voices of Practical experience write-up. We’ve requested some of our favourite artists to clearly show us examples of their evening time paintings and to inform us a small little bit about their processes in this series of Nocturne Notes.
Marino shared with us these two examples of her exuberant, expressive pastel nocturne paintings. She explained to us that her aim is in “catching the thriller of that particular time of night”

“In the conclude, it is about getting the viewer to sense

rather than to recognize, to check out instead than to take a look at,

and to love it rather than to move it by.”

In our fascination with how the eye sees and then interprets the entire world around us to our brains, we have discovered it specifically appealing to examine how the eye sees at night. Look for for the phrases “Nocturnes” and “Eyesight” in the search bar to study several attention-grabbing articles or blog posts about the science of viewing at night and the art of portray at evening, or, download our e-book, Nocturnes – A Primer on Evening Painting.
