Mongolia Photo Journey – July 2022
This trip had originally been planned for July 2020, then COVID took place. I am eternally grateful that folks hung on to their reservations for two years and we were being equipped to have an amazing excursion!
Our aim was cultural, however we did have a pretty handful of wildlife sightings including a critically endangered saiga antelope that galloped past us in a flash.
We had been capable to stay with and photograph the legendary Kazakh eagle hunters and even crashed a wedding. In the vicinity of Khovd we went to a regular pageant called a nadaam, with dusty, spirited horse races, and beefy wrestlers who designed brief operate of troopers who were attending. At last, as aspect of the team split off to photograph the endangered takhi (Przewalski’s horse) I was able to meet with shamans. In the Soviet era, Shamanism (and Buddhism) have been repressed, but the historic cultural traditions are building a resurgence.
The extensive steppe and arid mountains of Mongolia are impressive. It is awe-inspiring to witness a rainstorm sweeping across the land and passing clouds dapple the hillsides. It is certainly a single of the past destinations where by 1 can feel so smaller yet invigorated by nature.
